Sanjay Van Construction to be Halted
A signature campaign has been launched by the Green Groups to stop construction at Sanjay Van, a 780- acre reserve forest under DDA.
Activists pointed out that the development work in the forest will disturb the forest that is home to over 200 species of birds, over 70 species of butterflies, and several species of snakes and mammals, including jackals and porcupines. Authorities should focus on keeping the area clean.
A request for expressions of interest (EOI) had been issued by DDA in January for “nature-based learning and adventure activities” in the forest. As a result, volunteers from an organization called “There is no Earth B” began an effort to have the EOI withdrawn by writing the lieutenant governor.
To date, 1,705 people have sent emails to LG asking it to not commercialize Sanjay Van. The Delhi University is also raising awareness through artwork created by students from its colleges.
