HC Orders to Plant 10 Trees and Take Care of it for 10 Years to Put an End to a Dispute

A group of people was recently ordered by the Delhi high court to plant ten trees and care for them for a decade while it quashed an FIR that was filed against them in 2017 following a fight over petting pigs.

“Each of the petitioners shall plant 10 trees in their locality and look after them with proper care for 10 years,” the single bench of Justice Jasmeet Singh ordered on February 21, 2023. The investigation officer in question will decide where the trees should be planted after consulting the MCD’s horticulture department. The trees will be planted close to their residence.

The court said that because of the petitioners’ “humble background,” it wouldn’t charge them anything. The accused had been booked by the Delhi Police for a number of offenses, including 354 (outraging a woman’s modesty), 354B (using criminal force with the intention of disrobing or forcing a woman to be naked), and 509 (criminal intimidation).

The court was informed on February 21, 2023, that the parties had reached a settlement and decided not to continue the case. “The petitioners must do some social good,” the bench noted, “despite the fact that the parties have settled their disputes and quashing will put a stop to the matter.”
