Farmers in Anantnag Receive Grafted Walnut Plants from the Department of Horticulture

The department of horticulture in Jammu and Kashmir distributed grafted walnut plants to the farming community of Kokernag, which is located in the farthest reaches of the Anantnag district in South Kashmir. As part of the program expansion funded by the Capex budget 2022-23, approximately 190 grafted walnut plants with a subsidy of 80 percent were given to 11 beneficiaries in the region. Kokernag’s far-flung farmers applauded the department’s efforts and demanded that more land be covered because the region has a lot of potential for walnut cultivation. The department of horticulture is working on a program to improve the quality of walnuts and also to increase farmers’ incomes, which is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project. This is being made possible by advances in science and technology.
