Chhattisgarh: Deadline for insurance of horticulture crops extended till Aug 16th
NEW DELHI/RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh Government has extended the deadline for insurance of horticulture crops under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) till August 16 in the Kharif season. This has been done keeping in view the increasing participation of farmers in vegetable and fruit farming in horticulture sector.
This scheme is being run in Chhattisgarh for insurance of horticulture crops. It includes both horticulture farmers who take loan to do farming or do not take loan and use their own resources. all can be benefitted by this scheme. Horticulture farmers can get their crops insured through the listed banks under this scheme.
Crops eligible for insurance
Agriculture Insurance Company in collaboration with the Government of Chhattisgarh is providing insurance the crops under this scheme of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. These crops include tomato, brinjal. Guava, papaya, chilli and ginger crops.
Banks providing insurance
The government has enlisted banks and other institutions to provide crop insurance to horticulture farmers. The farmers can contact the representative of Horticulture Department or insurance company to get any kind of information about this scheme.
These include the nearest branch of any national bank, regional rural banks, district cooperative banks, primary cooperative societies, public service centers, insurance portals or postal departments of the Government of India. Horticulture farmers can get crop insurance from their nearest branch of any of these institutions.
Terms and conditions for insurance
Certain criteria needs to be fulfilled to access the insurance for the loss in crops. The evaluation of the claims will be examined under the certified data of 4 risks, low or high temperature, unseasonal rain, wind speed and pest and disease outbreak received from the automatic weather station of the area related to the crop.
Next, the amount will be paid directly to the farmer’s account on the basis of confirmation of the claim. The rate of insurance premium is 5 percent of the sum assured.
The details of the insured crops, the cause of damage and its quantity along with photographs has to be informed within 72 hours, if crops are damaged due to hailstorm and cyclonic winds under local calamity.
Insurance rates of crops
At least 150 hectares of listed horticulture crops are targeted to set under insurance for the Kharif season in Bilaspur district.
According to program rules, following are the insurance amounts to be paid:
i. Tomatoes – Farmer’s share is Rs.6,000 at Rs. 1.20 lakh per acre
ii. Brinjal- The farmer’s share is Rs 3850 at Rs 77 thousand per acre
iii. Guava- The farmer’s share is Rs 2250 at Rs 45 thousand per acre
iv. Banana- The farmer’s share is Rs 8250 at Rs 1.65 lakh per acre
v. Papaya- Farmer’s share is fixed at Rs 6250 at Rs 1.25 lakh per acre
vi. Chilli- Farmer’s share is Rs 4500 at Rs 90,000 per acre
vii. Ginger- Farmer’s share is Rs. 7500 at Rs.1.50 lakh per acre
Required documents
To get insurance for these horticulture crops, following documents are required to be submitted by the farmers.
Aadhaar card, land certificate, copy of the first page of bank account passbook, crop sowing certificate or self-declaration of intention to sow the proposed crop, farmer’s mobile number and declaration of crop share or tenant for sharecroppers, tenant and partner farmers.
