New Delhi. Amit Shah, the minister of cooperation and the union home minister, stated on Friday that planting trees was the only way to protect the environment.
An official spokesman in a statement issued to Press Information Bureau said that planting the 40 millionth (4 croreth) tree under the all-India tree plantation campaign of the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Group Center in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, Shah said, “Environmental protection is possible only by planting trees.”
He claimed in his speech that a tree planted today will supply oxygen to numerous generations in the future.
According to Shah, the ozone layer is being harmed by rising pollution, and as a result, solar rays will eventually directly strike the Earth, making it unsafe for human life. He claimed that planting as many trees as possible and lowering carbon dioxide emissions were the only ways to avoid such a situation.
When planting trees, according to Shah, two aspects are taken into account. He recommended planting trees like peepal, banyan, neem, and jamun among others because they can produce the most oxygen and have a long lifespan.
According to Amit Shah, these trees release between 60 and 100 percent of the oxygen needed to sustain life on Earth. Additionally, he inaugurated 15 freshly constructed buildings totaling Rs 165 crores that were spread out throughout 8 separate CRPF campuses.
These include building 240-man barracks in Group Center Raipur at a cost of Rs 11 crore, 220 family accommodations at 102 Rapid Task Force at a cost of Rs 57 crore, a 50-bed hospital in Group Center, Raipur, at a cost of Rs 17, a quarter guard and parade ground at Recruit Training Center Jodhpur at a cost of Rs 16, as well as hospitals, gyms, mess facilities, sewage treatment facilities, and canteens across the country.
According to Shah, it is a big day for every one of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). He said, it was decided three years ago that by December 2023, we would plant 5 crore trees. After filling in any gaps, once the trees had grown bigger, we would dedicate them to the entire world.
Shah expressed faith that the target of 5 crore trees planted by December 2023 will be met. He claimed that in order to complete this seemingly impossible task, all CAPF employees and their families accepted it as a challenge, treated the trees like friends, and made time to take care of them.
He stated that the work of all CAPFs to making the Earth greener would be remembered forever with the planting of the 40 millionth sapling, and that too of Peepal.” This campaign would write a new saga of CAPFs sensitivity towards earth conservation and climate change along with bravery,” Shah claimed.
He expressed that progress was being made toward the goal of planting 1 billion fifty lakh saplings this year; to date, 4 billion saplings have been planted, and the target of planting 5 billion trees will soon be reached.
Lieutenant Colonel A B Tarapore, who was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, was born on this day, and Shah said that he “set an excellent example by valiantly leading from the front and boosting everyone’s morale in addition to making the ultimate sacrifice for the security of the country.”
He claimed that by renaming an island in the Andaman-Nicobar region in honor of Lieutenant Colonel A B Tarapore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured that his memory will live on forever in the hearts and minds of the populace.
According to Shah, the nationwide initiative to plant 5 crore trees is similar to a Mahakumbh for environmental preservation. He claimed that the members of all CAPFs had worked tirelessly, bravely, selflessly, and devotedly to protect the nation’s borders and internal security.
“CAPFs are now doing unprecedented work towards environmental protection through tree plantation drive, in addition to ensuring the country’s internal security, disaster management, border security, and provision of public facilities to the first villages located on the borders,” Shah stated.
He asserted that CAPFs had demonstrated steadfast dedication to stand by the people in every crisis without hesitation, regardless of the nature of the crisis—natural disasters or pandemics like COVID-19. According to Shah, CAPFs were ensuring that first communities located on the country’s borders have access to public services and facilities under the Vibrant Village Program.
He added that by consistently working to safeguard the environment, CAPFs had introduced a new dimension. They had grown 4 crore trees and were on track to plant 5 crore trees by the end of the year. According to Shah, it would be the largest contribution to environmental conservation efforts ever made by a security-related organization.
He claimed that the MHA officials had managed the program at various levels and that the CAPFs as a whole had planted 4 crore trees. According to Shah, this program has received overwhelming support at the platoon and sector levels from all the DGs of all CAPFs.
He said that channels had been constructed to secure the survival of the saplings and that protective fences and netting had been put in place in many locations to preserve them.
According to Shah, “Our heritage and culture has always emphasized environmental protection, and through our beliefs and deeds, we have always ensured environmental conservation.”
Through the green program, he claimed that PM Modi had elevated India to the forefront of the fight against climate change and global warming. ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (One Earth, One Family, One Future) has been chosen as the G-20’s mission statement, according to Shah.
He said that India and France were the two countries which founded the International Solar Alliance, an initiative with the slogan “One Sun, One World, One Grid.” “Many nations are now contributing to and participating in this alliance. It is a noteworthy accomplishment for the Centre under PM Modi’s direction, Shah said.
He explained that PM Modi had promoted a traditional way of life to the world as a means of preserving the planet through the Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) mission program.
The United Nations honored PM Modi with the “Champions of Earth” award, recognizing his dedication to sustainable development, Shah claimed, and the rest of the world was now adopting his measures. He claimed that India had looked into fresh approaches to lessen single-use plastics. According to Shah, PM Modi has made a huge contribution to environmental conservation through the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
He stated that through eight significant missions, including the National Solar Mission, National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency, National Mission on Sustainable Habitat, National Water Mission, National Mission for a Green India, National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem, National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture, and National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change, Prime Minister Modi had demonstrated India’s dedication to environmental protection.
These programs are reviving our nation’s long-standing environmental protection culture, according to Shah. He claimed that today’s CAPFs have achieved what appeared to be an impossibility.
As the nation’s security and gallantry were the CAPFs’ ethos, Shah expressed confidence that they would adopt tree planting as their ethos as well. The Union Home Secretary and the directors general of the CRPF, CISF, NSG, NDRF, ITBP, SSB, BSF, and Assam Rifles were among the dignitaries in attendance.
