Farmers Visited Different Orchards under A Capacity Building Program

New Delhi: A Capacity Building Program was organised under Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP) by the Department of Horticulture Jammu for the farmers of Bishnah block. During the program, farmers had the opportunity to talk with and learn from the experience of progressive orchardists specially Strawberry Growers. They visited Dragon Fruit Orchard and High Density Guava Cv. Taiwan Pink Orchards at Kadyal, R.S.Pura and also the Mega Fruit Plant Nursery of the Department of Horticulture at Chakroi, Centre of Excellence, SKUAST-J, Udheywalla, Jammu.

The Mega Fruit Plant Nursery in Chakroi and the Centre of Excellence in Udheywala introduced the farmers to the most cutting-edge scientific methods used to mass produce high-quality plant material for a variety of fruit plants, and the farmers were incredibly impressed by the most recent innovations used in these Centers after personally visiting them because “Seeing is believing.”  The Farmers were joined by Dheeraj Sharma, a horticulture development officer, for the exposure visit.

Jammu’s Chief Horticulture Officer Sandeep Gupta, a subject matter expert in pomology at the district level, Ashwani Sharma, the head of the SKUAST-J Center of Excellence, Dr. Vikas Tandon, and Satwari, the horticulture development officer.

At the same time, the Department of Horticulture, Jammu, arranged a day-long training program on vegetative propagation techniques and scientific orchard management for the gardeners of the Jammu District. Garhi Mishriwala, Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu, Ashwani Sharma, Head of the SKUAST-J Center of Excellence and District-Level Subject Expert in Pomology taught and trained the participants in a variety of vegetative propagation procedures, including grafting, budding, air layering, and different facets of scientific orchard management in order to multiply high-quality plant material. The participants received hands-on instruction and live demonstrations of various approaches from horticulture technician Kewal Manhas. The trainees also received complimentary toolkits at the end.
