Desi banana farming becomes popular in Chapra for huge income

Chapra: Farmers in Chapra, Bihar, are earning a hefty amount of money by cultivating vegetables and maintaining gardens. Nagendra Ram, a resident of Kachnar village in the Riwilganj block, failed to get a job after completion of his studies. He didn’t sit idle, starting planting bananas, locally called “Desi bananas,” on his 10 kattha (measurement of land) of land, usually used for vegetables.

The gigantic size of the banana ranges from 3.5 to 4.5 feet long. The traders are ready to pay more due to its size. Therefore, farmers are getting massive income from this variety. This banana variety is getting popularity because low cost of its plantations. Farmers use homemade manure made from cow dung, and the plants need only a small amount of water in summer. Most importantly, the production of fruit is bumper.

Nagendra Ram said that in the summer, he only needs to water the plants lightly once or twice in a day to remove weeds. With the minimum effort, farmers are getting maximum profit in this variety of banana. Its market value is high, so farmers prefer to plant it to earn a pocket full of money.

ATMA (Agricultural Technology Management Agency) had inspired him to grow this variety of banana, Nagendra Ram said. His earnings have gone up beyond his expectations in the last four or five years. It has enticed several farmers to grow such a banana variety and earn more with less labour and time.
