Bamboo farming brings prosperity and conserves environment

New Delhi: Bamboo farming is gradually getting popularity; see the example of Shivaji Rajput, a 59-year-old progressive farmer from Dhule district in Maharashtra. His life has changed through bamboo farming and environmental conservation. With more than five years in it, Rajput has become an inspiration for sustainable agriculture, environmental protection, and rural development. His goal is to make the earth green as well.

He said you can start getting benefits once you plant bamboo trees. You don’t need to spend a lot of money. Once the bamboo is established, it needs little care and investment. After the first year, I don’t need to invest much, but I still earn about Rs 1 lakh per acre every year.

Bamboo is also known as “green gold.” It gives not only income but is replete with environmental benefits. “Bamboo is the fastest-growing plant on Earth. It can grow up to 47.6 inches in just 24 hours. It absorbs 30% more oxygen and captures 35% more carbon dioxide than other plants. This makes it a key player in the fight against climate change,” Rajput stated.

Like other crops, bamboo farming also needs a modern way of cultivation. The use of drip irrigation, a water-saving technique, has totally changed his farming. Drip irrigation allows cultivators to use water more professionally; through this method, plants get moisture as per their needs without wasting water. Bamboo can be an ideal replacement for wood, deforestation can be reduced this way.

Bamboo can play a bigger role in the future. Planting trees is the best investment we can make for our future. It’s not just about the environment; it’s about creating a legacy for future generations.
