UP govt offers subsidies to Ganga coastal farmers to grow vegetables

Kannauj: Floods always create havoc. There is good news for those farmers who were passing through a tough time, affected by floods along the banks of the Ganga at Kannauj. The Horticulture Department of Uttar Pradesh is ready to help them. Now, they can grow vegetables in the Ganga coastal areas. For this, farmers will have to register online to get benefit from the scheme.

The state government is set to provide subsidies to encourage suffering farmers to come forward and grow vegetables such as tomatoes, chilies, gourds, cucumbers, pumpkins, and ridge gourds. The Horticulture Department will also help them to plant rabi and onions.

District Horticulture Officer CP Awasthi stated the specific cultivation targets have been fixed under the scheme. 200 hectares are being fixed for Rabi onion cultivation, 125 hectares for integrated horticulture, and 170 hectares for the Horticulture Development Scheme in the Ganga coastal areas. The selection is very simple; it is first come, first served. Beneficiary farmers will have to hurry up to avail of this benefit.

The scheme will be a great opportunity for the flood-affected farmers. They once again earn their livelihood by switching to the horticulture sector, where they can grow vegetables. The state government is ready to provide all kinds of help to farmers now they can grow high-demand vegetables, fetching them good earnings.
