Farmers in Kangra receive 33,000 citrus species to boost fruit cultivation

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh has left no stone unturned in the promotion of horticulture in the state. The rainy season has just concluded, and during this period, as many as 63,000 plants of different varieties were delivered to the farmers’ community in Kangra district. Horticulture farmers received a variety of plants to grow more fruits. Deputy Director of the Horticulture Department, Dr. Negi, said the plants were given as per the demand of the farmers’.

Out of 63,000 plants, 33,000 citrus species, including varieties like mandarin, lime, and lemon, were distributed. Besides this, 13,000 mango plants, 4,000 litchi plants, and 4,000 guava plants were given to farmers to make the horticulture sector more potent in the state. Dr. Negi stated that farmers got guidelines regarding the care of such plants, and the department has been providing all kinds of information at the block level to raise awareness among growers.

The winter has started knocking on the door, and the department has been focusing on apple, plum, and apricot plants, and their suitable time of plantation is between December and April. These deciduous plants usually grow during the winter months and bear good fruits.

Dr. Negi told farmers who are eager to know more about special plants that they can contact their local block officer with their queries. The department is ready to solve their issues, even if plants need to be supplied from another district. He also encouraged farmers to reach out to the Horticulture Department immediately if they face any issues related to gardening.
