ICAR to organize nutrient management event for horticulture crops

Bengaluru: ICAR is to organize a special event on nutrient management in horticultural crops from November 4–8, 2024, in Bengaluru. The aim of the programme is to transmit the knowledge to the participants on soil, plant, and water analysis. Horticultural crops need a lot of effort to get an abundance of production; the requirement of fertilizers in crops and timely irrigation as well to get better growth and quality.

The nutrient values for fruit and vegetables are different from those for traditional crops, requiring a comprehensive approach. Fruit crops, being perennial, explore a larger soil volume over their lifespan, while vegetable crops, though annual like field crops, complete their life cycle faster.

Effective nutrient management is necessary to get better production. The quality of irrigation water is a big issue in the horticulture sector. Contaminated water lowers the yield and quality as well. Healthy water is essential for this sector, and it also lessens the risk of pollution from surfaces.

The upcoming training programme aims to explain to the participants the process of soil and plant testing, as well as the quality of irrigation water. Participants will get an opportunity to know the handling of various laboratory instruments used in these processes.

There are several key points in the forthcoming training event, including soil testing and plant analysis, irrigation water quality assessment, and providing knowledge of laboratory equipment. This approach will certainly help the participants to manage the nutritional requirements of horticultural crops more efficiently.
