Govt launches shade net house scheme to help horticulture farmers

New Delhi: The government has been leaving no stone unturned to boost the horticulture production in the country. In this regard, the National Horticulture Mission has issued a new scheme for the farmers for 2024–25 known as shade net house, encouraging them to install it and get benefit of this scheme. The Horticulture Department has urged farmers to fill out the application on time.

Farmers need to fulfill eligibility criteria for getting benefit from this scheme, said the Assistant Director of the Horticulture Department. Applicants must own land, and the land must be registered, and it should be at least 0.400 hectares. In the past, land must have been used for horticultural production such as fruits, vegetables, spices, or flowers. Preference will be given to those farmers who have effectively extended their crops under government-funded schemes.

Construction of shade nets is a costly affair. The total expense is Rs. 710 per square meter. The government is ready to give a 50 percent subsidy, and the rest of the amount will be paid by farmers. The aim behind this scheme is to protect farmers and their crops. It would increase yield and farmers’ income as well.

Basic facilities such as electricity, water, and fencing must be available on the farmers’ land to avoid any issues after installation. Farmers need to apply before the last date to avail benefits of this scheme. They can contact the Horticulture Department for getting more information and details. The scheme will be a boon for the farming community because it is set to promote the growth of horticulture production.
