New Delhi: In the midst of Russia and Ukraine war, which has been still going on for several months, world leaders who will gather here in the national capital for the mega G20 Summit, are scheduled to plant several saplings “to give peace a chance.”
Some trees are proposed to be transplanted to Lodhi Garden subsequently and will find a permanent place in the Lutyen’s garden.
World leaders are scheduled to spend September 9 and 10 in Bharat Mandapam, the freshly-minted venue for the mega gathering of world leaders.
On September 10, the leaders will plant specially flown in saplings from their countries, which are currently under quarantine. A senior government official said that Rajghat was chosen as the venue after much deliberation with Kartavya Path being considered as the possible location earlier.
The government, however, opted for Rajghat as Gandhi is seen as the biggest ambassador of peace and his message has resonated across the world for years.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will accompany leaders from the other G20 countries to Rajghat, Mahatma Gandhi’s resting place, to send a message across the world for peace.
The visit comes in the backdrop of the 18-month war in Ukraine which has emerged as a stumbling block in the group of developed and developing nations.
