NMC to roll out 250 electric buses to mitigate air pollution

Nagpur: Nagpur is famous all over the country as the “Orange City”. However, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), in its new initiative, is aiming to combat air pollution, trying to make it more efficiently and eco-friendly. It is important to improve the public transport system of the city, so NMC has been trying to bring more and more electric buses to reduce pollution.

The civic body of the city is set to introduce more than 250 buses to make the environment cleaner and greener. Currently, Nagpur has a fleet of 437 buses serving the city and its suburbs. After a successful trial of electric buses recommended by Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Transport, the NMC is ready to add 250 new e-buses to its fleet. This is a significant move towards creating a cleaner and more sustainable transport network.

Each electric bus can hold 41 seated passengers and 24 standing commuters, allowing around 16,000 passengers to enjoy a more comfortable and eco-friendly ride each day. Together, these buses are expected to transport over 100,000 commuters daily, helping to reduce the number of private vehicles on the roads and ease traffic congestion.

The advantage with the electric buses is that they produce zero emissions, which will decrease air pollution in Nagpur. This way, the city’s air quality can be improved. Besides this, electric buses will play a key role in reducing respiratory and cardiovascular diseases that take place due to poor air quality.
