UP offers opportunities for litchi farming in Lakhimpur
Lakhimpur: It is a golden opportunity for farmers to plant litchi in Lakhimpur because the Uttar Pradesh government is planning to support farmers who are interested in cultivating these mouthwatering fruits. Farmers will get subsidies so that they can look for their plants. 2 hectares of land is the target for litchi farming in the district, and the first come, first served rule theory will apply. Therefore, interested farmers should be ready and hurry up to get the government’s help.
To encourage farmers and the general public to take an interest in gardening, the government has launched the National Agricultural Development Scheme. Under this scheme, farmers will receive free litchi plants, and grants will also be provided for maintaining these plants. An online application process has begun, and farmers will be selected based on the order of their applications.

In Lakhimpur district, farmers have traditionally focused on sugarcane cultivation, often neglecting gardening. To change this, efforts are being made to raise awareness about the benefits of gardening. District Horticulture Officer Mrityunjay Singh stated that the district has a target of developing 2 hectares of litchi gardens.
Interested farmers have to contact the Horticulture Department office to get more information. This initiative by the government will not only boost gardening practices but also offers a pathway to prosperity through litchi cultivation.
