Punjab boosts farmers’ income through horticulture
Chandigarh: Horticulture is gradually turning out to be a profitable business for farmers. Therefore, a huge number of farmers across the country are slowly shifting from traditional farming to horticulture and floriculture, fetching better earnings. The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has been working relentlessly and encouraging farmers to come forward in these sectors. Horticulture cultivation not only improved the financial condition of Punjab’s farmers, bringing positive changes in their lives as well.
The Mann government has launched a new campaign to promote horticulture, which includes growing fruits, vegetables, and flowers. The goal of this campaign is to increase farmers’ incomes while advancing horticulture farming. The Punjab government is encouraging traditional farmers to use new horticulture techniques to help them earn more.

This campaign includes planting new orchards, growing improved vegetable varieties, producing mushrooms, and cultivating flowers. Additionally, the government is offering subsidies for buying organic manure, poly-houses, net-houses, beekeeping equipment, small tractors, power-tillers, and pest control machines.
Farmers in Punjab are receiving subsidies of up to Rs 14,000 per acre for flower cultivation. They are also getting a 35% subsidy on buying cold storage, packing houses, and refrigerated vans.
The horticulture sector has grown significantly under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. Around 42,500 acres of land are now being used for horticulture in Punjab, an increase of 6,500 acres since the taking charging by Mann’s government in the state.
