Chief Minister’s scheme aims to promote horticulture yield

Charkhi Dadri: The Haryana government has been looking forward to intensifying the horticulture production in the state. Therefore, the Chief Minister’s horticulture insurance scheme has got underway, aiming to promote the horticulture yields. Several new crops have been included under the initiative. The scheme is launched to provide some financial help to farmers in case they lose their crops due to adverse weather and natural disasters. Dr. Arun Sharma, District Horticulture Officer, stated.

He further said that the state government has decided to take all essential steps in the promotion of the horticulture sector. A new portal under the name “Chief Minister’s Horticulture Insurance Scheme” has been launched recently to provide compensation to those farmers who face weather-related and natural calamity losses. Losses caused by hailstorms, extreme temperatures, frost, floods, cloudbursts, canal or drain breakage, waterlogging, storms, and fire are all covered under this scheme.

Several crops have been included under this scheme, such as vegetables like arbi (taro), cucumber, tomato, onion, potato, cauliflower, peas, carrots, okra, gourd, bitter gourd, eggplant, green chilies, bell peppers, cabbage, and radish. Fruit crops such as gooseberry, date palm, fig, jamun, pear, mango, kinnow, jujube, guava, and litchi are also part of the scheme.

To avail benefit farmers will have to register under the “Meri Fasal Mera Byora” initiative. The scheme will provide farmers’ Rs 30,000 per acre for vegetables and spices and Rs. 40,000 per acre for fruits. The farmer’s contribution will be only 2.5% of the insured amount. To avail of the insurance, the premium is Rs. 750 per acre for vegetables and Rs. 1,000 per acre for fruits.
