Schools in Delhi likely to close amid pollution

New Delhi: The increasing trend of pollution levels in Delhi has created havoc among the people of the national capital. The deterioration has been continuing since the last week of October, and now the city has turned into a gas chamber. People have to think twice before going outside from their respective homes. AQI has crossed 400 in many parts of Delhi and its nearby cities.

Elderly and kids are badly affected due to bad air quality. Respiratory disorders, coughing, sneezing, and other pollution-related diseases are increasing day by day. According to various doctors, breathing in poisonous air is not free from danger for anyone. Despite the Delhi government’s efforts and the implementation of GRAP 2, pollution levels are by and large the same.

Two months, October and November, are replete with challenges for the Delhiites because they have to cope with the severe air pollution. During this period, poor air quality in Delhi NCR has reached its peak. AQI remains more than 300 in most areas. This figure crosses over 400 in several regions. The government has been planning to close down the schools, naming it a pollution break. Running schools in such horrible conditions may be dangerous for the children.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has issued a government holiday on the occasion of Chhath Puja. After this, a decision regarding the closure of schools may be taken. All the schools in Delhi were opened on Monday. But assembly, outdoor activities, and PT classes of children remained suspended in most schools due to poor air quality. Parents have been asked to take special care of their children and never allow them to go outside to play.
