Chrysanthemum exhibition boosts floriculture in Himachal
Nauni: The lush green outfields of Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, turned alive recently with more than 160 varieties of colours during the Chrysanthemum Exhibition-cum-Flower Show. The university’s Department of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture organized the event, which enticed nature lovers, flower enthusiasts, farmers, students, and visitors. The exhibition was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor Rajeshwar Singh Chandel. He was the chief guest as well.
Chandel, along with university scientists and staff, praised the farmer-growers for bringing beautiful flowers of various colours, shapes, and sizes to the event. Flower growers from Himachal Pradesh were also present, bringing different kinds of flowers. Chandel admired the efforts of the Floriculture Department for developing chrysanthemum as a money-making crop for farmers. He asked scientists to continue their research in bringing out new varieties of flowers so that farmers can grow them and boost their incomes.

The exhibition was not just a flower exhibition, giving platform to the commercial use of chrysanthemum and boosting its production. A huge number of attendees were present on the occasion, such as university students, who impressed the visitors with their creation of fabulous landscape arrangements. Dr. S.R. Dhiman, Head of the Floriculture Department, informed attendees about the university’s germplasm collection, which includes over 160 chrysanthemum varieties.
University students, schoolchildren, farmers, and others were present during the show. The beautiful ways of arranging flowers attracted everyone. Local farmers got prizes for their contribution in the floriculture sector. Chrysanthemum Day will provide a platform for farmers to enhance their yields and provide job opportunities to the locals, along with boosting their income.
