Thiruvananthapuram gears up for ‘Vasantholsavam’ flower festival
Thiruvananthapuram: Christmas and New Year are around the corner; preparation is in full swing for their celebrations. Flower plays a significant role in escalating the joy on auspicious occasions. Therefore, Thiruvananthapuram has been gearing up to celebrate these two days with ‘Vasantholsavam’—an annual flower and light festival scheduled to be held at Kanakakunnu Palace grounds from December 24 to January 3.
A huge number of visitors would like to enjoy the flower festival. Kerala Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas, in a statement on Wednesday, said that the festival will elevate the city’s charm and ambience during Christmas and New Year for the residents and tourists. “Vasantholsavam 2024 and New Year will be the two most significant events to be organized by the state tourism department this year because the Onam festival did not take place this year amid devastating Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslides in Wayanad,” said Riyas.

To make the upcoming festivals a grand success, an organizing committee has been established, with General Education Minister V Sivankutty and Food and Civil Supplies Minister G R Anil as the chief patrons and Riyas as the chairman. Three MPs, Shashi Tharoor, Adoor Prakash, and A A Rahim, and MLA of the district will also be the patrons of the event.
On this occasion it is likely that various competitions for nurseries and landscaping will also be organized for individuals and organizations. DTPC Thiruvananthapuram has issued tenders for those who want to set up stalls in the trade fair, amusement parks, and the food festival.
