Karnataka govt gives nod to set up new Agriculture and Horticulture University

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has given an official approval for the setting up of a new Agriculture and Horticulture University at VC Farm in Mandya district. Finally, the long-cherished dream of the people of Mandya and the Mysore division has been fulfilled. This will definitely help local students to take admission and get degrees and diplomas in horticulture and agriculture. After gaining the practical and theoretical knowledge, they can play a key role in boosting both these sectors in the state.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah revealed his decision in the 2024-25 budget speech. To make it possible with ease, an expert committee has been formed under the supervision of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the former chancellor of Bangalore Agricultural University. The committee will discuss the issue with experts, visit several places and spots, and assess all the situations before submitting its report to the government.

With the nod by the state government, the new university is ready to utilize existing infrastructure at VC Farm in Mandya. The Finance Department has approved the fund, urging the university to submit the estimated cost for the setting up of essential infrastructure development.

Agriculture Minister Chaluvarayaswamy has made it clear that special officers will be appointed for the smooth running of such works. The government is adamant about starting this university in 2025. Preparations have started on a war footing. The new institution will help students to go for advanced horticulture research and agricultural education to make Karnataka’s farmers more potent.
