Karnal, Japanese universities to work on digital horticulture research
Karnal: Climate change has created havoc in the entire world. Agriculture and horticulture sectors have been badly affected due to the change in the nature of the weather. Several trees have started bearing flowers and fruits before time due to a sudden rise in temperature. How to overcome this issue is an enormous task for the horticulture experts. Maharana Pratap Horticulture University, Karnal, has taken the issue seriously in an order to address the mounting challenges amid climate change.
The university has decided to work with Kochi University, Japan, to tackle the issue. Therefore, it has decided to work on digital horticulture research with the Japanese university. Digital horticulture research focuses on smart and precision farming, which play a significant role in modern agriculture. The association between the two universities aims to bring progress in greenhouse farming technology, which will be fruitful for farmers to deal with challenges arising due to climate change and ensure sustainable agricultural production.

One of the major issues in today’s farming is the shrinking size of farming lands. This has created a lot of difficulties for the small and medium-scale farmers to boost their yield and livelihoods. Digital horticulture research is capable of overcoming climate-related challenges through advanced farming techniques.
A team of university experts and scientists, led by Vice-Chancellor Suresh Malhotra, landed in Japan early this month and visited Kochi University from January 13-17. They had a marathon discussion about the project with their counterparts to make the association more potent to encourage agricultural research and technology in both nations.
