Rajasthan farmer Vinod earns in lakhs from organic papaya farming

Chittorgarh: A progressive farmer from Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, named Vinod Dashora, has made a name for himself in papaya farming. His success story through organic farming has not only transformed his life but also inspired numerous farmers in his area. Vinod decided to venture into farming despite having done a diploma in electronics. Currently, he has been earning lakhs by using organic methods in his papaya farming. He follows five elements in his farming, like earth, water, fire, air, and space, avoiding chemical fertilizers and pesticides, making farming eco-friendly and sustainable.

The variety Red Lady 796 papaya was the first choice for Vinod. The advantage of this species is that it starts bearing fruits within 8-10 months, and production continues for almost two years. This fetches satisfactory income for him. He purchases high-quality saplings from reputed nurseries and plants them 8 feet apart to allow for their proper growth. Over 750-800 plants he cultivates in an acre, each plant costing Rs 25-30.

Vinod sells his papaya at premium prices. To get better yield, he tests soil on a regular basis and uses organic manure. He uses drip irrigation to conserve water and provide needed moisture to the plants.

Vinod’s success story makes it clear that horticulture is both a profitable and eco-friendly business. He has motivated several farmers in his region to adopt organic farming to earn a hefty amount of money.
