Mizoram sends first consignment of Anthurium flowers to Singapore

Aizwal: India has made rapid progress in floriculture exports, especially from the northeastern states. In view of this first consignment of Anthurium flowers sent to Singapore from Mizoram on Wednesday, as per the officials. This initiative is expected to open the gate of flower exports from the region. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in association with Mizoram’s Department of Horticulture, played a key role in the export.

APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev and Special Secretary of the Department of Horticulture, Mizoram, Ramdinliani, were present during the flagged-off the consignment from Aizawl. Overall, 1,008 Anthurium cut flowers were packed in high-quality boxes before their send-off.

Anthurium plays a key role in Mizoram’s flowers business, boosting the local economy. The farming of this flower has created huge employment opportunities in the state, especially for women. Therefore, the Anthurium Festival is being celebrated every year in the state, promoting tourism as well.

Last year, the International Conclave and the Buyer Seller Meet were held in Aizwal. APEDA and the Mizoram government organized the meeting, bringing nine global purchasers from several countries such as Singapore, UAE, Nepal, and Russia along with many domestic exporters on one platform for the boost of Mizoram flowers export.

India overall exported $86.62 million worth of floriculture exports during the 2023-24 fiscal year. It is also trying to strengthen the supply chains to boost the presence of the Northeast’s states in the worldwide flower trade.
