Young Kashmiri couple tastes success in flower business

Kashmir: Young Kashmiri couple, after failing to get government jobs, decided to venture into the floriculture sector. This starts the success story of Ravi and Sunita, who belong to Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. After the initial struggle, gradually they started to taste success in the flower business. They made flower growth their profession, and that became their livelihood as well.

The couple took a piece of land on lease in Pulwama town, where they are growing more than 200 varieties of flowers. Their families did not support them in the beginning, but now they are helpful due to the growth of their business.

“Last year, we started this small-scale flower business. It was my idea, but my husband fully supported and invested in it. Now, we are earning well,” Sunita said. She added that their passion for nature and the environment inspired them to choose this field.

The couple brings plants from Pune and Chennai and then sows them in their field. They advise that young people should not only concentrate on government jobs; they can begin their own startups because the floriculture sector has a lot of potential to earn a lot of money.

The couple further said that youth should explore new opportunities; floriculture and horticulture are fields where newcomers can easily start their farming. This way, they should not be job seekers; rather, their aim is to be a job provider,” Ravi and Sunita said.

Their inspiring journey has made it clear that determination is essential for success. Currently the couple has turned out to be a role model for the locals; youngsters are taking steps to create their own paths.
