Ludhiana flower show attracts huge number of gardening enthusiasts

Ludhiana: A two-day flower exhibition got underway on Tuesday at Punjab Agricultural University. A huge number of people, including flower lovers and gardening enthusiasts, turned up to witness the vibrant show. The visitors were keen to learn about modern floriculture practices. Enthusiasts and experts from several places took part in 23 categories for potted plants, 17 categories for foliage plants, and floral arrangements. In this show, more than 30 stalls were established to showcase flowers and floral products.

Noted agricultural scientist and World Food Prize laureate, Dr Gurdev Singh Khush, inaugurated the event along with his wife. PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary University Vice-Chancellor Dr Jatinder Pal Singh Gill, and Maharana Pratap Horticultural University, Karnal, Vice-Chancellor Dr J.P. Singh Gill, were also present on this occasion.

Dr Khush appreciated PAU’s role in the expansion of floriculture, stressing the deep-rooted connection between humans and flowers. He further added that flowers have a profound relationship with human beings. Dr Khush went on to say that large-scale flower farming would flourish in Punjab, with PAU playing a significant role through this annual show.

PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal highlighted the university’s role in developing new flower varieties and promoting floriculture as a remarkable option in the agricultural sector. He described the event as a tribute to Dr Randhawa’s vision and legacy, eagerly awaited by flower lovers each year.

Meanwhile, PAU bagged the “Best Centre Award – 2024” for its All India Coordinated Research Project on Energy in Agriculture and Agro-based Industries. The honour was conferred upon PAU’s Department of Renewable Energy Engineering for its outstanding contributions.
