District Collector inspires farmers to grow flowers for better incomes

Bhimavaram: The horticulture department in West Godavari district (Andhra Pradesh) organized a programme on floriculture and horticulture value-added products. Several people participated in this event, including District Collector Chadalawada Nagarani. During the event, she visited a flower exhibition and gained knowledge of different species of flowers. Later, the collector urged the farmers to concentrate more on floriculture because it fetches more income.

The collector went on to say that flower farming needs some investment in the beginning, but once the flowers are harvested, after that farmers can earn a hefty amount. Farmers can avail themselves of loan facilities, which are to be returned after five years. NABARD, DRDA, and NRGS are providing all kinds of financial support, particularly for jasmine gardens. As the demand for decorative flowers is on the rise in India and abroad.

The District Horticulture Department has been giving full support for the promotion of floriculture, organizing farm visits for farmers so that they can learn modern techniques of farming. India occupies second place worldwide in floriculture, and Andhra Pradesh ranks third for flower production in the country. Currently, horticulture practices are taking place in 15,000 hectares in West Godavari. All inspirations have been given to farmers to switch to horticulture and floriculture instead of traditional farming for better earnings.

This venture aims to create awareness among the minds of farmers and its benefits in the long term because the floriculture sector is packed with profits.
