J&K launches plantation drive to boost floriculture

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government has been trying its best for the boost of floriculture in the valley along with horticulture. The government is ready to provide all support to floral farmers so that they can boost their incomes and the economy of the union territory. In this regard, Director of Floriculture Kashmir, Shakeel-ur-Rahman, recently inaugurated a large-scale plantation drive at Wazir Bagh, Anantnag, by planting a sapling. During the event, top brass of the department, such as Joint Directords Floriculture Kashmir, Deputy Director Floriculture, District Floriculture Officer, and others were present.

This initiative will enhance the beauty of the gardens and parks across various districts in South Kashmir. In the initial stage, more than 10,000 saplings of different species of flowers are set to be planted for the promotion of the floriculture sector and to bring awareness among the people as well.

Speaking to the media, Shakeel-ur-Rahman highlighted the department’s goal of attracting more tourists this year, which, in turn, would generate greater employment opportunities in the region.

“We are introducing new plant and flower varieties at different locations, which will not only beautify the area but also serve as a draw for tourists,” Rahman stated.

Rahman thanked all the officers of the department for the organization of the plantation drive on a large scale, highlighting the collaboration among the officials and farmers for the boost of the floral business in the valley. This venture will surely increase the livelihoods of the farmers.
