Himachal farmer earns lakhs through organic farming
Shimla: A Himachal farmer named Mohan Singh has proved that organic farming is more profitable as well as sustainable. Earlier, he used to work in Gulf nations, where he observed the high demand for organic Indian products in global markets, encouraging him to return to his native village to set his feet in agriculture. In the beginning, he applied the chemical-based methods.
Later, he changed his mindset; in 2018, he totally switched to natural farming. This decision had given a new shape to his agricultural practice and boosted his income as well. Currently, he has been earning annually around Rs 15 lakh by growing organic vegetables and fruits, and the demand for his chemical-free produce is high in big cities like Delhi and Chandigarh.

At present Mohan has been using organic fertilizers and pesticides like ‘Jeevamrut’ and ‘Dashparni Ark’; they improve soil health and keep pests and diseases under control as well. He harvests several vegetables, such as cucumbers, French beans, cabbages, peas, tomatoes, radishes, turnips, coriander, and spinach on a regular basis. Along with this, he has adopted natural farming methods in his mango orchards and other fruit plantations.
He believes that organic farming keeps soil fertility healthy, reduces farming costs, and increases yield. Besides this, products of natural farming keep vegetables and fruits fresh for a long period. Therefore, their prices remain high in the market.
With the huge success of natural farming, Mohan Singh has now become a role model for the local farmers. He encourages and shares his knowledge with his fellow farmers. His journey makes it clear that with dedication and the right approach, horticulture is packed with eco-friendly and financially rewarding.
