Haryana aims to boost horticulture yield through new scheme
Chandigarh: The Haryana government is set to boost fruit and vegetable production under its horticulture project. The scheme is set to be launched with the collaboration of the Japanese government. The project needs an investment of Rs 2,738 crore, and the state government has allocated Rs 138 crore for the financial year 2025-26. The project will be completed in nine years.
The government has decided to reduce the electricity rate for the promotion of the horticulture sector. Cold storage units will receive electricity at Rs 6.50 per unit; earlier it was Rs 7.50. With this initiative, farmers will get a lot of respite.

The government is ready to set up 400 horticulture clusters in all the districts. Earlier, it covered only 19 districts; now Faridabad, Rewari, and Kaithal have also been included in the list. Work is in full swing for the completion of the first phase of the international fruit and vegetable market in Gannaur, expected to be ready in November. The market will be equipped with all the modern facilities, providing better incomes to farmers; they can afford cold storage services at reasonable prices. The government has been investing Rs 2,600 crore for the development of the market terminal.
An air-conditioned flower market is to be established in Gurugram to boost floriculture trade. The market is likely to be successful because it is nearby Delhi. Apart from this, the market’s sub-yard is to be developed in Manethi village, Rewari, providing support to local farmers.
With the initiative from the Haryana government, horticulture and floriculture are likely to flourish in the coming years in the state.
