PM Modi condoles the demise of eminent agriculture scientist Dr. MS Swaminathan

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the death of eminent agriculture scientist, Dr. MS Swaminathan whose “groundbreaking work in agriculture transformed the lives of millions and ensured food security for our nation.”

The Prime Minister posted a thread on X:

“Deeply saddened by the demise of Dr. MS Swaminathan Ji. At a very critical period in our nation’s history, his groundbreaking work in agriculture transformed the lives of millions and ensured food security for our nation.

Beyond his revolutionary contributions to agriculture, Dr. Swaminathan was a powerhouse of innovation and a nurturing mentor to many. His unwavering commitment to research and mentorship has left an indelible mark on countless scientists and innovators.

I will always cherish my conversations with Dr. Swaminathan. His passion to see India progress was exemplary. His life and work will inspire generations to come. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.”

 

Swaminathan brought revolutionary and qualitative changes with innovative methods: KCR

Chief Minister Sri K. Chandrasekhar Rao expressed deep shock at the demise of Father of India’s Green Revolution, eminent Agricultural Scientist, Ramon Magsaysay Awardee and Padma Vibhushan MS Swaminathan. CM KCR expressed deep sorrow and said that India has lost a reputed agricultural scientist with the passing away of Swaminathan.

The Chief Minister said Swaminathan brought revolutionary and qualitative changes with innovative methods in the India’s traditional farming sector with a vision. India achieved self sufficiency in food grain production with the unstinted efforts put by Swaminathan.

KCR said that India achieved Green revolution through the experiments conducted by Swaminathan. As a result, food grain production such as Wheat, Rice etc increased. Swaminathan is the first Scientist who worked for entire life with a vision to achieve food security and meet the demands in the country. Swaminathan will be remembered forever for developing different crop varieties to suit the different geographical soil conditions of all states.

The Chief Minister recalled that Swaminathan extolled the initiatives taken up by Telangana Government towards the development of the agricultural sector many times and the close association he maintained with the departed agricultural scientist. Interaction with Swaminathan at Secretariat during his visit to Telangana state are memorable forever. Many of the suggestions made by Swaminathan during discussion are invaluable. The CM recalled that the Magsaysay awardee appreciated the state government’s programmes for the development of the irrigation sector with free electricity and lifts schemes.

Being a farmer, KCR said he is influenced by the recommendations made by Swaminathan and his vision for the welfare of the farmer and sustainable development of the integrated agriculture sector.

The CM said that Swaminathan’s inspiration is embodied in making Telangana a role model for India in the development of farming sector and achieved many milestones in the crop production. Telangana, which was turned into a barren land region in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, is making wonders in the farming today.

The State Government fulfilled the wishes of Swaminathan who advocated that Telangana will flourish as a Seed Bowl of India by the optimum use of fertile lands. Swaminathan always interested to visit Telangana after learning about the agricultural development and welfare of the farmers in the state. The agricultural scientist also delighted over fast pace development of farming sector in Telangana and expressed his desire to visit the state in the recent meeting with state representatives. CM KCR expressed regret that Swaminathan left heavenly abode without fulfilling his wish. It is a proud moment that  swaminathan praised for Telangana government’s endeavour to strengthen the agriculture sector.

The CM said it is difficult to fill the void left by Swaminathan. The country’s farming sector and the farmers lost a guiding force. KCR conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.
