The new session will start from June-July. The Horticulture Department has also started preparations for banana gardening. The department is trying to set a target of banana cultivation in 250 hectares in the year 2024-25. Banana cultivation costs about Rs 1.20 lakh per hectare. About 3 thousand saplings are planted per hectare.
The decision to promote banana farming comes in light of the increasing demand for bananas both domestically and internationally. Bananas are not only a staple food in many parts of India but also a major export commodity with countries like the United Arab Emirates, Nepal and Bangladesh being significant importers. By incentivizing banana cultivation the government hopes to increase production levels to meet the growing demand and reduce dependency on imports.
The subsidy package includes support for various aspects of banana farming such as the purchase of high-quality banana plants, fertilizers, pesticides and other inputs. Farmers will receive financial assistance for the construction of irrigation systems and the adoption of modern farming techniques. This comprehensive support is expected to enhance productivity and quality leading to higher returns for farmers.
The government’s decision has been welcomed by farmers and agricultural experts alike. Many believe that the subsidy will not only benefit individual farmers but also contribute to the overall growth of the agricultural sector. By promoting banana farming, the government is also addressing issues of food security and rural livelihoods.
Experts have emphasized the need for farmers to take advantage of the subsidy by adopting best practices in banana cultivation. This includes proper land preparation, timely planting, and effective pest and disease management. By following these guidelines, farmers can maximize their yield and income, ultimately benefiting from the government’s subsidy program.
