Rain Rejuvenates Flora and Fauna, Replenishes Wetlands
The southwest monsoon is expected to hit Delhi in half a month. Semi-dry Delhi and its dry verdure, fauna and wetlands anticipate restoration. The city will see transient (little plants) reclassify its scene and bugs like cicadas, butterflies and dragonflies will help in pollination and help avifauna as prey.
Monsoon will resuscitate Delhi’s decreasing and delicate environment by pampering its verdure, fauna, soil, air and water bodies, accordingly fortifying them to support one more year damaged with outrageous climatic conditions.
Monsoon helps those plants which have small root systems and can’t live in summers, but they play a major role in balancing the ecology. These plants germinate with the first rain and help in changing the landscape by making it green and flowery. They die after the rains, leaving the seeds torpid till the following season. When they die they become the biomass that goes to the soil and nourishes it. Also, they help in increasing the soil fertility and carbon content of the soil which helps in stopping erosion, aeration and water retention. They attract insects on which birds feed.
Rain changes the whole edge, and restores groundwater and fauna. Without rains, Delhi will fail to exist as there is a population imbalance in Delhi. Without rain, there will be no water, no recharge and no Yamuna. Managing the crises will be impossible then.
Rain settles the particulate matter, thereby purifying the air and cleaning leaves and improving tree heath.
Delhi is built upon two key life-growing natural surroundings — Aravali and Yamuna. Rain helps in restoring the Yamuna by weakening its contamination load and repairing the floodplain by bringing sediment, tiny fish, and so on, and Aravali by for the most part filling its dejections. Monsoon is important for dry area rejuvenation. Many birds can be seen during this time especially Indian pitas in the pre-monsoon period.
Monsoon also rejuvenates mushrooms and funguses which are also a critical part of nutrition flow.
