Second Memorial Lecture of Renowned Horticulturist-Dr. L Venkata Ratnam

The second memorial lecture of renowned horticulturist, Dr L Venkata Ratnam was jointly organized by The Agri-Horticultural Society of Hyderabad and Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU).

Former DDG of ICAR New Delhi, Dr HP Singh, delivered the 2nd memorial lecture on “Climate Resilient and Sustainable Development of Horticulture – Challenges and Opportunities with special focus on Telangana State”.

During the talk, he focused on the need to adapt the climate-resilient and sustainable technologies to meet the future challenges in the horticulture sector. Also, the management of the value chain is also important and to meet the demands of the growing population needs to be produced from fewer resources to more production. Telangana has a suitable climate and atmosphere for horticultural crops and has great potential for expansion.

The commissioner of horticulture, Mr. L Venkat Ramireddy expressed that there is a lot of scope and opportunities for the growing of vegetables and oil farms in Telangana. Moreover, he asked the students to utilise the growing opportunities in the sector.
Reddy said that the public authority has plans to urge the farmers to go for oil farm cultivation on a large scale and Telangana is especially appropriate for the development of oil farms.
