Air Pollution? No worries…this plant can transform carbon dioxide into oxygen even at night

New Delhi: The onset of winter brings along the problem of air pollution year on year. Not just in Delhi but even in other cities across India too. Air quality in winter season is a major environmental concern in Delhi and NCR region. Various efforts are being taken for the past five years for air quality management in the region. Although gradual year on year improvement in air quality has been observed, still a lot needs to be done. Air Quality Index deteriorates due to the constant pollution from transport, dust, industrial and episodic sources including firecrackers and stubble burning.

But, there’s a breather for the people as there’s a plant named as Snake Plant which acts as a catalyst in purifying air. It filters indoor air, even at night. Snake plants, like other household succulents, help to filter indoor air. This plant is special since it is one of the few plants that can transform carbon dioxide (CO2) into oxygen at night.

There are ways to decorate your home with plants, but with snake plants, there are so many. The architectural and tall-shaped leaves of the snake plant make it perfect for corners of the home and office.

The snake plant is a common house plant native to Asia and Africa. It is distinguished by its ever green sword-shaped leaves that grow straight and resemble artificial foliage, and it requires little water to survive.

They are also known for their ability to help remove toxic air pollutants. In small amounts, snake plants can absorb cancer-causing pollutants such as CO2, benzene, formaldehyde, etc.

Snake plants can withstand both shade and intense sunlight, as well as flooding, drafts, and dry air. They also do not require repotting on a regular basis. They can help reduce the impact of airborne allergies like dust and dander by releasing oxygen and adding moisture to the air.
