Air pollution surges in Delhi, crosses 400
New Delhi: Pollution levels have surged in Delhi-NCR, severely affecting public health. As per the latest report by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed 400 on Friday, reaching into the ‘very poor’ category. The situation has further deteriorated in several other areas, where AQI crossed 450. Therefore, breathing issues have increased. According to experts, if pollution levels rise this way, then it is expected to reach the ‘severe’ category in coming days.
Experts think that vehicular emissions, dust arising from construction activities, waste burning, and a sudden rise in temperature caused the rise in pollution levels in the city. Besides this, strong winds recently carried dust and toxic particles across the region, deteriorating air quality. Pollution levels in the nearby cities like Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Gurugram have gone up significantly, making the air quality very poor in such cities.

Doctors have raised the alarm bell and said that breathing polluted air can cause severe health problems. Children and senior citizens are on the receiving end, especially those who have a history of respiratory disease. With the rise of pollution, cases of asthma, bronchitis, and allergies are increasing. People are suffering from eye irritation, headaches, and throat infections due to long-term exposure to toxic air.
The Delhi government is busy and trying to keep the pollution levels under control. Water sprinkling is taking place near the construction sites to control dust, waste burning has been banned, and it is expected that restrictions on vehicles may be imposed if required. However, experts say that people need to take all the precautions to keep themselves healthy and fit.
