AMC introduces VIP zone for Rs 500 in upcoming flower show

Ahmedabad: The upcoming annual flower festival to be organized by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is set to get underway next month at Sabarmati Riverfront. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will inaugurate the event. Additionally, the inauguration of the tree census will also take place on the occasion. Last year, more than 9.72 lakh visitors visited the festival. Entry to the show will be free for children up to 12 years.

However, the increase in entry fee by the civic body is a buzz among the people. The price of tickets has gone up from Rs 70 to Rs 50 for weekdays, while on weekends its price would be Rs 100; earlier it was Rs 75. Those who wish to avoid the crowd and want to watch the show from an exclusive area and get VIP treatment, then they have to pay Rs 500. The facility has been made for the first time at the flower show. Their timing will also be separate.

The price of the ticket has been increased to control the huge crowd. In fact, such shows attract a large number of people from all walks of life that lead to traffic jams and create other issues. Last year, the road from the flower park at Sabarmati Riverfront to Sardar Bridge had to be closed on Saturday and Sunday, and extra police personnel had to be deployed.

The previous year a revenue of Rs 6.52 crore was generated, while AMC’s expenditure was high at Rs 11.44 crore. The corporation has planned to spend Rs 15.10 crore this year, arranging for more stalls and flower varieties and providing better facilities for visitors, AMC sources said.
