Apricot farming fetches better earnings for farmers

Kashmir: Farmers of several states, such as Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, are gradually taking more interest in fruit cultivation. Therefore, they are shifting from traditional to horticulture farming, earning better incomes. These areas are suitable for numerous fruits amid perfect cold climate. Farmers have a chance to grow apricots and boost their livelihoods. Currently, apricot farming is gaining popularity in these states.

Cool temperature is the basic requirement for apricot farming. Hilly area farmers have a chance to grow this fruit easily. As per the experts, mid-January is the ideal time to plant apricot seedlings. Farmers can plant apricots and establish orchards; then a good harvest is on the cards.

Farmers need to keep some important points in their mind for the successful cultivation of apricots, such as the selection of the right location. First, dig pits that should be at least one meter deep, then plant the seedlings at a distance of 15 to 18 feet from each other. It is essential to keep the topsoil at the bottom of the pit and vice versa.

To keep the soil moisture perfect, it is essential to mix 10 kg of cow dung manure, 50 grams of DAP, 100 grams of nitrogen NPK, and 100 grams of agrisar and use them in the soil. Purchase saplings from reliable nurseries; it is essential to keep the grafted section above the soil surface. For the healthy growth of the plants, irrigation should take place at regular intervals. Apricot trees start giving fruits after three years, and it can bear crops for up to 15 years. Mountainous region farmers are being encouraged to go for apricot farming to boost their incomes.
