Arunachal Cabinet Approves Horticulture, agriculture, And Tourism Policies

Itanagar, Mar 6: The Arunachal Pradesh cabinet, led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, has approved three major policies aimed at strengthening the state’s horticulture, agriculture, and tourism sectors. The approved policies include the Arunachal Pradesh Horticulture Policy 2025-35, the New Agriculture Policy – Arunachal Pradesh 2025-35, and the Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Policy 2025-30.
Education Minister P.D. Sona, addressing a press briefing at the Civil Secretariat on Wednesday, stated that these policies incorporate modern strategies, financial support, and sector-specific interventions to drive sustainable growth.

The Arunachal Pradesh Horticulture Policy 2025-35 focuses on increasing horticultural productivity, promoting climate-resilient farming, and enhancing infrastructure. Key initiatives include the Arunachal Kiwi Mission to boost kiwi production and the Arunachal Spice Mission to expand the cultivation of high-value spices such as large cardamom, black pepper, Sichuan pepper, star anise, turmeric, and ginger. The Arunachal Medicinal & Aromatic Plants (MAP) Mission aims to support large-scale cultivation of medicinal plants for AYUSH-based industries while ensuring biodiversity conservation.

The New Agriculture Policy – Arunachal Pradesh 2025-35 aims to modernize farming through mechanization, sustainable practices, and land expansion. It includes measures for land terracing, transitioning jhum cultivation into permanent farming, improving irrigation, and promoting multi-cropping techniques. The policy also focuses on crop diversification, advanced storage facilities, and research-driven farming, with plans to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and drone technology.

The Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Policy 2025-30 is designed to position the state as a key tourism destination through infrastructure development and sustainable tourism initiatives. The policy prioritizes improving road connectivity, eco-friendly accommodations, and digital tourism platforms. Key areas include adventure tourism, spiritual circuits, farm tourism, and wine tourism. Community participation will be encouraged through homestays, handicrafts, and rural tourism ventures to generate employment and strengthen local economies.

The policy also promotes eco-wellness retreats, traditional healing therapies, and AYUSH-based naturopathy centers. Direct employment is expected in hotels, homestays, resorts, transport, and adventure tourism, while indirect employment will benefit agriculture, handicrafts, food processing, and event management sectors.
Sona stated that these policies align with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative by fostering local entrepreneurship and skill development. Training programs for tourism guides and hospitality professionals will be introduced, and government support will be extended to indigenous tourism start-ups and handicraft industries.
