Assam farmer earns lakhs through cultivation of mangoes
Tinsukia: A progressive farmer from Tinsukia, Assam Dhoniram Chetia had to face financial hardships that forced him to drop school. He started concentrating on agriculture along with his wife. They started growing several crops through organic methods. He started cultivation mango in his farm, growing Amrapali mango on six bighas of land, yielding 50-60 kg per tree every year
Currently, he has ventured into the Thai Banana Mango, a well-known variety from Thailand, producing 16 fruits in its first year. He gained a lot of inspiration from this success. At present, he has been growing 17 kinds of mangoes, bringing saplings from Bangladesh, Japan, and Thailand.

Dhoniram has adopted modern techniques. He prunes mango trees regularly to improve their structure and increase production. He never uses chemical pesticides on his farm, instead relying on biological and mechanical pest control methods. His use of pheromone traps, light traps, and yellow sticky traps helps manage pests without harming the environment.
“Even though fruit crops need protection, I prefer natural solutions to keep them healthy,” he says.
Dhoniram’s success as an organic farmer has made him a role model for local farmers. He believes that innovation plays a key role in boosting production. Modern methods and hard work can lead to great success along with protecting nature.
