Bihar govt promotes rooftop farming, allocating 75% subsidy

Patna: Rooftop gardening of fruits, vegetables, flowers, and medicinal plants is gradually becoming popular in cities because there is not enough land for farming. It is now common to grow vegetables and flowers in pots and farming beds placed on the roof or terrace. The Agriculture Department of Bihar has approved the promotion of rooftop gardening for 2024–25.

Under this scheme, people will receive a 75% subsidy from the government. This will encourage more people to try rooftop farming and grow vegetables for daily use at home. Residents of cities like Patna, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, and Gaya can grow vegetables and fruits at home without spending a lot of money.

The State Agriculture Department has given Rs 1.91 crore for the scheme. The government will provide a maximum of 5 units, which equals 150 pots with plants, to each person. The total cost of soil and plants for 30 pots is Rs 10,000, but with the 75% subsidy, people will only need to pay Rs 2,500.

For the bed farming scheme, the cost per unit is Rs 50,000, and the government will provide Rs 37,500 in two installments. This scheme is available to all residents of Bihar. For more details, visit the official Bihar Horticulture Department website: https://horticulture.bihar.gov.in.
