Bihar to boost horticulture & floriculture with 70% subsidy

Patna: The Bihar government is aiming to increase its share in the country’s horticulture and floriculture sectors. Therefore, the state government has been providing all kinds of help to farmers; now farmers in Bihar will get a lot of benefit from the Chief Minister’s Horticulture Mission Scheme. The government has decided to bear half the cost of growing fruits and flowers.

Farm growers are likely to get up to 70 per cent subsidy for the cultivation of papaya and marigold. A farmer who has 0.25 to 10 acres of land is eligible to avail of this scheme. Those without land can take advantage of this scheme by taking land on lease. The subsidy covers the cultivation of marigold, banana, papaya, and mango.

To get the benefit, farmers will have to sign an agreement. The applicant’s name should be clearly mentioned in the land ownership documents or revenue receipts; otherwise, they will have to submit a family tree along with those documents. If the paper is correct, then the subsidy will be transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).

Beneficiaries will be selected on the basis of categories. Following are the shares of different groups: General 78.56%, Scheduled Castes 20%, and Scheduled Tribes will have 1.44%. Apart from these, 30% will be reserved for women.

Farmers can apply for this scheme online at the Bihar Government’s Horticulture Directorate website (horticulture.bihar.gov.in). Landless farmers can also download the agreement format from this portal. They can apply separately for different schemes available on the website.
