Black mango to be cultivated in Ara: A sweet and rare variety

Bhojpur: People have eaten, seen, or must be heard about green, yellow, and pink mangoes. Don’t surprise; soon you will see and taste a black colour of mango. It is being planned to be cultivated in Ara (Bihar). This variety has reached the Kisan Nursery in Gudi village and is likely to be a favourite among the locals. Its price will probably be thousands of rupees per kg, and it has a sweet taste.

The saplings are available in the nursery; anyone can buy them and grow in pots at their respective homes. The price of the plant is as per the budget of a common man. The nursery operator, Abhay, said that apart from here, saplings won’t be available in any part of Bhojpuri district. Black mango and 97 other mango varieties can be purchased from only Kisan Nursery.

Abhay went on to say that the ‘Local 18’ variety of black mango has a lower sugar content in comparison to other mangoes. It is replete with medicinal properties, which are beneficial for health, especially for diabetic patients, if they consume it in a limited amount.

The process of sowing black mango is the same as that of common ordinary mango. It can be grown in a small field, garden, or even in a pot. You have to keep patience for two years after planting; after that, you will start getting fruit. However, the nursery operator assured that if it doesn’t bear fruit after two years, he will refund the amount.

The price of this plant is ranging from 300 to 1,500 rupees. Despite the high price in comparison to ordinary mango, people have shown lots of interest, as per the nursery operator. Black mango is tastier and healthier, and beside this, it won’t spoil for several days, and its price may touch six thousand rupees per kg in the international market.
