CAQM imposes GRAP IV restrictions in Delhi

New Delhi: Delhi’s air quality once again returned to its ‘severe +’ category after a brief respite. Therefore, the Centre decided to reimpose GRAP IV restrictions in the national capital and NCR with immediate effect. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) sub-committee decided to enforce all restrictions as per those mentioned in Stages 3 and 4, respectively. According to the statement, Stage 1 and 2 limitations are already in force.

“All actions as per the GRAP schedule will be monitored minutely by all the pollution control agencies related in the entire NCR to control the deteriorating air quality so that it doesn’t slip further. All monitoring agencies will have to remain watchful and intensify measures to implement the restrictions. An appeal has been made that people need to follow the boundaries strictly under GRAP,” the statement added.

As per the Stage 4 curbs, all the construction activities will remain suspended; besides this, non-essential polluting trucks will be debarred from entering Delhi, and schools will be shifted to the online mode, except for classes 10 and 12, to the hybrid mode.

During winters, the Delhi-NCR region enforces restrictions under GRAP, which categorizes air quality into four stages: Stage 1 (Poor, AQI 201-300), Stage 2 (Very Poor, AQI 301-400), Stage 3 (Severe, AQI 401-450), and Stage 4 (Severe Plus, AQI above 450).

Delhi residents have been facing the pollution issues since September due to vehicle emissions, stubble burning, firecrackers, and dust amid construction, which made the air quality dangerous for the people, which led to numerous pollution-related diseases, especially respiratory and lung infections.
