Centre launches NHM shade net house scheme for farmers
New Delhi: The government has introduced the NHM shade net house scheme for 2024-25, aiming to boost horticulture productivity and farmers’ income. Shade net houses protect crops from extreme weather, pests, and other challenges while ensuring better quality and yield. Under this scheme, farmers can build shade net houses to grow horticultural crops like fruits, vegetables, spices, or flowers.
These structures regulate temperature and light, minimize water evaporation, and extend growing seasons, enabling year-round farming. This not only enhances crop quality but also reduces dependency on chemical pesticides, promoting sustainable farming practices.
To qualify, farmers must own a minimum of 0.400 hectares of land dedicated to horticultural crops. Preference will be given to those who have previously expanded horticulture under government schemes.

The estimated cost of constructing a shade net house is Rs. 710 per square meter. The government provides a 50% subsidy, covering Rs. 355 per square meter, while the farmer bears the remaining cost.
Interested farmers can apply through their local Horticulture Department within the specified timeframe. The scheme offers an excellent opportunity for farmers to modernize their practices and increase their profits.
By adopting this initiative, farmers can gain better crop protection, higher yields, and access to premium markets, ultimately leading to improved financial prosperity. For more information, contact your local Horticulture Department.
