Centre of Excellence to boost vegetable & floriculture farming in Jammu
Jammu: The construction of the Centre of Excellence for Entrepreneurship in Precision Vegetable and Floriculture Farming officially got underway on Monday. Director Agriculture Jammu, S. Arvinder Singh Reen, was present during the Bhoomi Pujan. The construction work has been taking place under the guidance of JK Agro; it is expected to be completed within six months. The setting up of a modern polycarbonate greenhouse spanning 3,511 square meters is the highlight of the project.
The center is likely to improve the agricultural sector in the valley, providing high-yielding seedlings for vegetables and floriculture. Farmers will get a lot of benefit from the advanced farming methods, which will boost productivity as well as better crop quality. The Centre of Excellence is set to be used as a research hub where farmers of the region will get guidance from the experts.

Speaking at the ceremony, Director Agriculture Jammu, S. Arvinder Singh Reen, highlighted that the center will offer farmers modern tools and knowledge to improve their farming practices. “This initiative will also promote entrepreneurship in vegetable and floriculture farming, allowing farmers to adopt sustainable and innovative techniques,” he added.
During the Bhoomi Pujan, several top officials like Joint Director Agriculture (Extension) Satish Sharma, Deputy Director (Central) Jammu Dr. Ashwani Sharma, Agronomist (VIS) Jammu Vikas Padha, Divisional Manager (P&S Jammu) A.H. Salaria, Divisional Soil Survey Officer Suresh Kumar Khajuria, Potato Development Officer Raj Singh Sumbria, and others were present.
The new venture will certainly help Jammu’s farmers to benefit from improved agricultural techniques, get bumper yields, and boost their incomes as well.
