Chhattisgarh farmer boosts production with drip irrigation and modern technology
Raipur: Manjeet Singh is a Chhattisgarh farmer who belongs to an agriculture family. Since the beginning he was innovative, so he started concentrating on modern methods of farming to get better yields after joining his father’s agriculture activity. In the beginning, he switched from traditional irrigation to sprinkler systems. Later, he installed drip irrigation on his farm, a turning point in his life.
With the help of drip irrigation technology, he managed water and nutrients effectively, giving him better crop production. Currently, Manjeet has a 56-acre farm, where he has been successfully growing guava, dragon fruit, mango, and sapota. He does crop rotation and mixed cropping regularly so that his farm remains productive and yields a high quantity of fruits.

Manjeet’s always used to apply new techniques to boost his income. He opened a retail outlet where he sold what he had grown. Seeing the huge market demand, he went on for polyhouse cultivation, investing a huge amount. He started growing several kinds of regular and off-season vegetables. At present, he is planning into hydroponics, a soil-free method of growing vegetables.
He takes part in social activities as well; he is an active member of the National Horticulture Mission, sharing knowledge with his fellow farmers to adopt new techniques and explore new crops. He is currently focusing on hydroponics. He believes that it may bring a revolution in the farming sector. “Agriculture changes with time, so we have to change as well to get better results.
