DDA Ready to Sell Vermi-Compost Through E-Commerce

The green waste of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) parks, which was not even worth a penny some time ago, is now proving to be a ‘diamond’ because its value has been worth lakhs. By making vermi compost from this waste, DDA is not only meeting the requirement of fertilizers for its parks but is also providing it to the people at a nominal cost. Now DDA is preparing to sell this vermicompost through an e-commerce site in other parts of the country as well.
There are more than 700 parks under the DDA in Delhi, including small and big ones. All these produce a lot of green waste of dry leaves, twigs and fruits. Before the Corona period, either they were thrown in the garbage or they were set on fire, but on the initiative of DDA Principal Commissioner, Mr. Rajiv Kumar Tiwari, 78 parks have started preparing vermi compost from this green waste. . The advantage of this was that DDA did not need to buy fertilizers for its own parks.
In the year 2020-21, DDA started selling this fertilizer to Delhiites also at the rate of only Rs 10 per kg through its nurseries. Not given for free because people don’t appreciate it. In the year 2021, DDA has prepared 13 thousand quintals of manure, which has earned an income of about Rs 35 lakh, while this year the target has been set to make 40 thousand quintals of manure and an income of about Rs 75 lakh. The work of making this manure in additional 55 parks has been started in April itself.
Now preparations are on to sell this fertilizer in other parts of the country as well. For this, all e-commerce companies including Amazon are being approached. Through these, manure will be sold in packing of 1, 2, 5 and 10 kg. Organic fertilizers will be provided across the country with the idea of ‘No Profit, No Loss’ and DDA’s income will also increase.
