The department is developing a strategy to plant 3,30,000 samplings. This includes 76 thousand potted plants and 2.54 lakh plants and bushes. The planting of pots will go on until two days before the summit because of the G-20.
According to PWD, the task of planting trees and plants on the land has nearly been finished. 70% of the work has been completed till now. The Delhi administration made the decision in March to use various kinds of shrubs, vines, and plants to add more greenery to the national capital’s highways and flyovers in preparation for the G-20.
There have been discussions about adding vegetation to the walls, flyovers, and areas in the middle and on either side of the selected roads. PWD authorities has also requested to intensify the work on this plan.
The task of completing the tender procedure and other related tasks on time was requested. In accordance with the plan, trees and bushes are planted on roads and flyovers starting on June 20 and continuing until two days before the event in September.
Prime locations covered under this plan
The Rajghat area and Pragati Maidan are the primary routes where more plants are to be added. In addition, Delhi has many such roads and flyovers, which contribute to dust pollution because there is less greenery there. The agency has selected these sections so that more greenery can be added and these roadways can be made more attractive. In addition, Vikas Marg and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg are also covered by this plan.
IIT Flyover, Chirag Delhi Flyover, etc. are also included. Adding potted plants to the road from Rajghat to Indira Gandhi International Airport would help add more greenery. Plants and shrubs are being used for roadways and flyovers under this extensive effort.
To stop dust from blowing onto the roads, dry, empty area is not left. In order to determine where greenery can be developed, the department conducted a study some time ago. For this, vacant places were found on the side of the roads. Places were also identified on flyovers and central verges of roads, where there were less plantations. The footpaths of the road have also been made encroachment free by increasing number of plants under the flyovers.
