Delhi budget session 2025 kicks off; pollution likely to take center stage

New Delhi: The BJP unseated the AAP government in Delhi last month. Several issues were raised during the election campaign, and one of the main topics was pollution. Delhi residents have been facing poor air quality since September 2024. High pollution levels was one of the reasons for Kejriwal’s defeat in the recently concluded assembly elections. The saffron party has once again taken charge of Delhi after 27 years.

The newly elected government has tabled the “Viksit Delhi Budget” for 2025-26 today. The main focus is on women’s empowerment, health, infrastructure, and pollution and waterlogging woes. The budget session kicked off today, on March 24, and it will continue till March 28.

It is expected that the issue of pollution levels in the national capital will get the center stage. AAP is ready raise the air quality of Delhi seriously. The pollution levels in Delhi always remain in the ‘poor to moderate’ category. Therefore, Delhi residents rarely get fresh air.

Several diseases are taking place in Delhi due to high pollution levels. Children and senior citizens are on the receiving end. Respiratory diseases, lung infections, type-2 diabetes, and other diseases are commonly spreading among the people. A couple of months ago, long queues of people could be seen in the hospital.

The million-dollar question is what the solution to Delhi’s pollution is. The new government has not been able to tackle the air pollution in the city. Delhi’s air quality has not improved much. Sneezing, throat infection, and fever are commonly taking place due to high levels of pollution.

The five-day budget session is set to be crucial. The Rekha Gupta government is likely to take some stern measures to curb Delhi’s pollution and fulfil pre-poll promises so that Delhiites could enjoy fresh air.
